Much like the “no white after Labor Day” rule, wearing denim on denim used to be considered a fashion no-no. These days, though, everyone from
celebrities to street style tastemakers are taking the early ´00s trend and making it their own. Also known as a Canadian tuxedo (which usually refers
to wearing a denim top or jacket with denim bottoms), this style can be intimidating, we know. That’s why we’ve thrown together some tips and tricks
for putting together head-to-toe denim outfits below.
Is it OK to wear double denim?
Does a Canadian tuxedo have to be blue?
How can I style denim on denim for everyday?
1. Have a maxi moment.
There’s something effortlessly chic about a front-slit
denim maxi skirt, especially when paired with a
ribbed tank and cropped denim jacket. Finish the ’fit
with dainty jewelry and platform sandals or boots.
2. Dare to bare.
Denim dressing can look even cooler when you
(strategically) show a little skin. For an everyday look
that feels very now, pair a denim button-up shirt with
relaxed or wide leg jeans. The key here is to just
button at the middle of the shirt, and feel free to add
layered necklaces. You can also pair your favorite
light wash jeans with a cropped vest, and then top
the whole thing off with an oversized denim jacket.
3. Try a jumpsuit.
“What better way to follow the trend than with a
jumpsuit! I love the denim corset detail and the pleating
throughout the top of the pants, it hugs in all the right
places but is still breathable. If you’re a statement
maker, this is for you."
